GEORGE TOWN: Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik’s stand on the take- over of the Penang ferry service by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd appears to be “double-sided to deceive voters”, said Penang Port Commission (PPC) director Yeoh Chin Kah.
“The Penang ferry service has been losing (revenue) over the past years, and Prasarana, under the management of the Finance Ministry, is willing to bear it.
“This is the Barisan Nasional spirit to sincerely serve the people,” he said in a statement yesterday in response to Ng’s comments against the takeover from its current operator, Penang Port Sdn Bhd.
A Chinese daily reported on Saturday about the Tanjong MP querying the takeover of the Penang ferry service which would incur losses.
He claimed that the losses would then be transferred to Prasarana, resulting in the need for the Government to subsidise the company.
Yeoh urged Ng to “do his homework” and not rush to find issues merely to twist the Federal Government’s good intention.
He said Prasarana had a good reputation in operating public transport services and taking over the ferry service in Penang was a good move.
Ng could not be contacted for comment.
