KUALA LUMPUR: An Omani citizen pleaded not guilty in the Ampang Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of possessing counterfeit money, worth more than USD40,000, last month.

Mohamed Yousuf Nasser, 54, from Zanzibar, was charged with possession of 443 US$100 notes of the same serial number, which he knew were counterfeit, but with intention to use them as genuine, in a room at Safari Hotel, Jalan Mamanda 5, Off Jalan Ampang, here at 11.30 am last Sept 28.

The man, who is unemployed, is charged under Section 489C of the Penal Code and faced an imprisonment for up to 10 years if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Norhashimah Hashim, who prosecuted, did not offer bail, as Mohamed Yousuf’s social visit pass to the country had expired.

Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali then set Nov 8 for mention. — Bernama
