KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak condemned today an attack in New York City that killed eight people and injured dozens more as “attacks on humanity”.
“My thoughts & prayers for New York City. Innocent lives were lost today. We stand together against cowardice attacks on humanity,” he posted on his official Twitter account.
International news wires reported an Uzbek man drove a pick-up truck into a bicycle lane in the US city near the 9/11 Memorial, mowing down pedestrians and cyclists before crashing into a school bus on Halloween afternoon.
Police apprehended the driver after he emerged from the truck with guns. The 29-year-old is believed to have acted alone.
New York mayor Bill de Blasio called the attack a “cowardly act of terrorism”.
US president Donald Trump reacted on Twitter by saying: “We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough”.
ISIS is the acronym for the global terror network calling itself the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, they are also known in Malaysia by their Arabic acronym, Daesh.
