KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — Malaysian professional shuttler, Zulfadli Zulkiffli continued his fine run by advancing to the semi-finals of the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament in Macau, today.
The 10th seeded player, however, had to sweat before securing a 15-21, 21-18 and 21-6 win over Shih Kuei Chun of Taiwan in his quarter-final match at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website www.bwfbadminton.com.
Accompanying Zulfadli into the last four are eight seeded Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See after the pair stunned the third seeds, Terry Hee Yong Kai/Tan Wei Han of Singapore;winning in 21-18 and 21-10 in the mixed doubles event.
A few other Malaysian players, however, were shown the exit after losing to their respective opponents.
Former internationa and seventh seeded Chong Wei Feng was eliminated from the tournament after losing 23-21, 10-21 and 11-21 to two-time Asian Games champion and third seed Lee Hyun il of South Korea in the men’s singles.
National women’s doubles pair, Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean also faced the same fate after losing in straight sets 14-21 and 14-21 to Della Destiara Haris/Tiara Rosalia Nuraidah of Indonesia.
Malaysia’s interest in the women’s singles and also the men’s doubles event, fizzled out yesterday after the players were beaten by their respective opponents in the second round. — Bernama
