In a speech at the Mahabah Rasul event in the Al-Bukhary Mosque tonight, Zahid also said that Muslims here should stop focusing on the differences in race and religion and celebrate the similarities instead.

“Malaysia is an example of progress in a Muslim country. Even though we are the dominant (faith) here, we should not push other beliefs aside.

“I plead to all Malaysians, as we have multiple idealogies and beliefs, not to look at our differences and let it end there, but to instead celebrate our similarities as we might find more common ground (with one another),” said Zahid.

He added that the Quran and Hadith do not preach fundamentalism, extremism or terrorism and that these are the behaviours of a few that have in turn triggered Islamophobia.
