PETALING JAYA, Feb 13 ― The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) assures stakeholders that the fire at its Jalan Gasing branch has in no way compromised the integrity of data or it’s members savings.
In a statement following the fire, EPF also said they were working closely with the Fire and Rescue Department to ensure the fire was contained.
“We would also like to assure members that there has been no compromise to data integrity or members savings in any manner.
“We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and will provide an update once the branch is back in operations,” according to the statement.
“As safety of customers and staff is our prime concern, total evacuation of the building has been taken, and office and counter services are closed until further notice.”
EPF also urged members and employers wishing to perform any transactions to contact or visit the nearest branch to do so.
The fire, which broke out at around 11 am had been contained by the Fire and Rescue Department, who said up to 40 per cent of the building had been destroyed.
Department deputy director Mohd Hafiz Mat Dali said the department had deployed personnel and equipment from its Seksyen 7, Damansara, Klang, Hang Tuah and Pantai stations.
“We have 43 personnel on the ground at present. The call was made at 11.52 and the first responders arrived within five minutes.
“We are unable to confirm if there have been any casualties as yet.”
The building, next to the Federal Highway, caused a traffic slowdown as curious onlookers slowed down to watch as flames engulfed the six-storey building.
