LOS ANGELES, Feb 15 — Lionsgate has released a new trailer for upcoming comedy sports movie Uncle Drew, that was originally conceived as a Pepsi ad.
The film stars basketball legends like Kyrie Irving, Lil Rel Howery, Shaquille O’Neal, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, Lisa Leslie, Chris Webber as well as Erica Ash, and Nick Kroll.
In the film, Dax (Howrey) finds himself struggling financially after entering his team in a street ball tournament in Harlem. He enlists the help of basketball legend Uncle Drew (Irving) and urges him to return to the court once again to win the coveted championship.
The synopsis of the film reads: “After draining his life savings to enter a team in the Rucker Classic street ball tournament in Harlem, Dax (Howery) is dealt a series of unfortunate setbacks, including losing his team to his long-time rival (Kroll). Desperate to win the tournament and the cash prize, Dax stumbles upon the man, the myth, the legend Uncle Drew (NBA All-Star Irving) and convinces him to return to the court one more time. The two men embark on a road trip to round up Drew’s old basketball squad (O’Neal, Webber, Miller, Robinson, and Leslie) and prove that a group of septuagenarians can still win the big one.”
Uncle Drew is set for release on June 29.
