KUALA LUMPUR: The launch of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line on Monday will mark a game changer in the country’s transportation landscape, said MRT chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.

He said the SBK line’s 51km route will help under-served areas with its 31 stations between Sungai Buloh and Kajang as areas located northwest and southeast of the Klang Valley are not served by any urban rail lines.

Shahril said in the first phase of the completed MRT SBK Line, 11 out of 12 stations were built in areas where there was no rail service while phase two consists 13 out of 19 stations.

“This reflects MRT’s commitment to improve the connectivity, especially suburban areas, thus improving their mobility,” he said.

Shahril said that all fares on the SBK line will be affordable enough for lower and medium income groups.

He added that fares would start from RM1 and said that the most expensive fare would be RM6.40.

It is cheaper than driving your own car,” he said. – Bernama
