PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) youth wing Armada believes the fracas at the “Nothing to Hide 2.0” forum was “strategically planned” and meant to hurt the party’s chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as sabotaging the event.
Armada chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman claimed the wing will make a police report, as well as submit videos and evidence to the police for investigation.
“The event was fine for the first one and a half hours, and after that, we can see bottles being thrown, then there were shoes, followed by flares and chairs. All directed to Tun (Mahathir).
“It is evident that the ruckus was pre-planned and we received information that these provocateurs had donned the unofficial Armada T-shirt,” Syed Saddiq said in a press conference after the event was cut short due to the ruckus.
Meanwhile, Armada executive council member Mohd Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir said Mahathir was not hurt and the party will provide updates on the situation from time to time.
“When we had to escort Tun out, I was the last person to shake his hand. I said that we were sorry if this (ruckus) had troubled him, but Tun said this is the struggle that we have to endure in our efforts to explain to the public,” Ashraf said.
The Nothing to Hide 2.0 was organised by Armada as a platform for Mahathir and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to debate issues surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Pandemonium broke out after provocateurs threw some chairs, shoes and flares towards the end of Mahathir’s session.
A few suspects were arrested and police are investigating the matter.
