MIC’s Vell Paari urges cops to arrest ex-branch leader over alleged underage sex
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 ― MIC treasurer-general Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari today urged the police to immediately arrest a former MIC branch leader over allegations of soliciting sex from teenagers in return for favours and employment.
Vell Paari, in a statement, also called on the authorities to immediately apply for a remand order so that investigations could begin, since police reports have been made against the person.
“This man shall not be roaming the streets and be near any underage girls as his actions, based on the voice note and video I have, are basically by a paedophile,” he said.
Vell Pari called on party leaders and members not to meddle in the case and let the matter be handled by the police and the authorities.
“It is not in our power to settle this issue between the victims’ families and this man. We are neither the police force, the court or attorney-general.
“What he did was rape and there is no compromise. This man must be dealt with with the full force of the law and the MIC shall focus all of our energy and resources in helping the victims,” he said.
Vell Pari noted that he will also assist Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said to ensure that the victims and their families receive all the legal and moral support that they need.
“The priority here is to protect the victims and their families,”he said.
Yesterday, Vell Pari issued a statement confirming that the branch leader, who is also a teacher, quit the party over the allegations.
He also claimed to have a voice recording which revealed the man’s attempt to convince a mother to allow her daughter to engage in sex in return for a job. ― Bernama
