IPOH, Nov 5 — A hattrick by Muhammad Haziq Samsul saw host Perak edge Negeri Sembilan 3-2 in their opening Razak Cup hockey competition Group A match at the Azlan Shah Stadium, here today.
Perak, fielding a number of players from the SUKMA squad, however, had to wait till the second half to open accounts through Muhammad Haziq who struck in the 31st, 38th and 56th minutes.
Negeri Sembilan, spearheaded by National player Mohd Marhan Mohd Jalil scored in the 49th minute through G. Kevin Kartik and Aiman Haqim Badrulhishaam in the last minute of the game.
In another Group B match played today, Police and Johor shared the spoils in a high scoring draw.
Police shocked Johor through Baljit Singh Sarjab Singh’s 19th minute strike while Razie Rahim added the second in the 22nd minute but Johor managed to reduce the deficit through Faiz Helmi Jali in the 26th minute and added two more goals to race into the lead after strikes in the 37th and 45th minutes through Mohamad Syafiq Mohamed Zain and Mohamad Nor Hafiq Abdul Ghaffar.
Police once again took the lead when Baljit Singh and Razie made it 4-3 but Mohamad Nor Hafiq saved the blushes for Johor when he scored a minute before the hooter to make it 4-4.
In other matches played today, Selangor beat Pahang 2-0 in a Division 2, Group A match while Kelatan edged Indonesia 3-2.
In Group B Division 2 matches, Armed Forces and Kedah shared the points in a 2-2 draw while Perlis whipped Singapore 6-2. — Bernama
