KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said today it has blocked the sayakenahack.com micro-site over data privacy issues, and that it did so following a formal request from the Data Privacy Protection Department (JPDP).
“MCMC has taken action to block the website sayakenahack.com after receiving an application from the Data Privacy Protection Department (JPDP) under Section 130, Act 709 of the 2010 Data Privacy Act,” it said in a statement posted its Facebook page this evening.
The sayakenahack.com micro-site was formed by tech blogger Keith Rozario for Malaysians to check their exposure to a massive data breach.
Tech news site lowyat.net, which first alerted Malaysians to the data breach involving 46.2 million cellular service subscription accounts, alleged that the site was blocked by the MCMC.
Rozario’s site was launched on Sunday, but gained national prominence today after its existence was publicised by major news outlets reporting updates of the breach.
Earlier today, the police said they have identified the culprits behind the data breach that led to what is being called the largest personal data information theft in Malaysia.
