LOS ANGELES, Nov 16 — Having scooped eight Primetime Emmys, incendiary drama The Handmaid’s Tale is coming back for a second run, starting April 2018.
Based on the Margaret Atwood novel and starring Elisabeth Moss as the woman trapped inside a dystopian future United States, The Handmaid’s Tale is to return to Hulu with a new batch of episodes in April 2018.
With the United States having been transformed into a high-control theocratic society with a self-interested group of families at its head, The Handmaid’s Tale follows the fortunes of June Osborne (renamed Offred by her captors), who tried and failed to escape the regime.
Hulu accompanied its announcement with a brief clip depicting a handmaid — an enslaved concubine in the fictional and largely infertile future nation of Gilead — moving hurriedly through the dark, guiding herself by flashlight.
“In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids — where anyone could be a spy for Gilead — all with one goal: To survive and find the daughter that was taken from her,” said Hulu.
Rather than mimicking the 10-episode format of season one, the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale will run to 13 episodes.
As well as Moss, other returning cast members include Yvonne Strahovski, Joseph Fiennes, Max Minghella, and Amanda Brugel. — AFP-Relaxnews
