KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 ― Sabah Umno lawmaker Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan died at 11.57pm yesterday while receiving treatment for cancer at the Prince Court Medical Centre here.
The 56-year-old Apas assemblyman’s death was confirmed by his younger sister Faridah, national news wire Bernama reported today.
“My brother’s body will be taken back to Tawau for burial,” she was quoted saying.
Faridah told Bernama that her brother had been undergoing treatment for intestinal cancer, including surgery, at the hospital for the past eight months.
Tawfiq, who was also Sabah youth and sports minister, was last seen in public with state Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa on February 25 in Kampung Membalua, Tawau.
The vacancy in the Apas state constituency resulting from his death will be decided at the 14th general elections this year.
