KUALA LUMPUR (April 6): Special operation rooms will be activated at every district police headquarters (IPD) and police contingent headquarters (IPK) including in Sabah and Sarawak at midnight, in preparation for the 14th General Election (GE14).
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director, Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) control centre in Bukit Aman would be coordinating enforcement assistance in the event of an emergency.
“The special operation rooms will also act as a centre to share national security-related information with the public,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
According to him, the operation rooms would be monitoring and controlling the security situation ahead of GE14, following the dissolution of Parliament effective midnight today.
He said PDRM would also be assisting the Election Commission (EC) to ensure smooth running of GE14.
Earlier Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said if needed, more members of the Police Volunteer Reserve Corp would be enlisted to assist during GE14.
He said about 79,000 or 69 per cent of the total police force would be involved.
According to him, police have also identified about 1,100 individuals and organisations with potential to carry out “last minute surprise attack” to create chaos during GE14 while 116 areas in the peninsula and 33 in Sabah and Sarawak have been identified as GE14 hotspots.
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, today announced that Parliament would be dissolved on Saturday paving the way for GE14.
