JOHOR BARU, April 7 — The 13th Johor State Assembly is dissolved today, said Johor State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.
Azmi, in a statement, said Sultan Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar consented to the dissolution.
“Starting today, it is informed to all the people that the 13th Johor state assembly is dissolved with the consent of the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar under Part Two Clause 23 of the Johor State Constitution,” said the statement.
He said a notice of the dissolution of the Johor State Assembly had been handed over to the Johor State Election Commission’s office this morning by Speaker, Tan Sri Mohamad Aziz.
Yesterday the Sultan of Johor consented to the dissolution of the Johor State Assembly today.
Earlier, the Sultan received an audience from Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin at about 4.15 pm yesterday at Istana Pasir Pelangi here.
In the 13th general election (GE13), Barisan Nasional (BN) retained Johor when it won a two-third majority by winning 38 out of 56 state seats. However, for the first time, the BN stronghold lost 18 state seats compared to six during the 2008 GE.
DAP holds 13 state seats while PAS (four) and PKR (one) but the state assembly’s composition was altered when BN lost one seat, Jorak state seat after its incumbent Datuk Shahruddin Md Salleh joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
Meanwhile Aminolhuda Hassan from PAS, who won the Parit Yaani seat joined the Parti Amanah Negara due to PAS internal crisis.
The composition of the Johor State Assembly currently sees BN holding 37 seats, DAP (13), PAS (three) while PPBM, Amanah and PKR with one each seat. — Bernama
