KLUANG (April 6): UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has called on the people to be wary of the presence of “seasonal candidates” from the opposition who are seen to frequently appear during the general election period.
Hishammuddin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sembrong, said this was because their presence usually brought along destruction because the political style practised by the opposition would lead to political hatred and divide the community.
“We can see what they try to do in Sembrong, Throughout our administration in Sembrong, we have seen the opposition members come and go according to the season, and for 15 years we were here, they (the opposition) had frequently changed the candidates who later disappeared after the general election (GE).
“When the GE gets nearer, they will appear again, and what is most sad is that their presence and approach would lead to severe destruction as their speeches encouraged hatred and division of the people of various races and religion, raising doubts, anxiety besides pointing fingers at the others,”he told reporters after the launching of the Barisan Nasional (BN) Machinery for the Sembrong Parliamentary constituency at the grounds of the Sembrong Community House (T6), here today.
Also present were Paloh Assemblyman Teoh Yap Khoon and Kahang Assemblyman cum Johor Chairman of the Solidarity and Human Resource Committee R. Vidyananthan.
Hishammuddin added that the opposition had never shown their commitment towards Sembrong except to come bringing with them racial and religious sentiments aimed at dividing the people.
“It is not easy to lead a nation that is full of diversity, to realise the objectives of 1Malaysia, uniting the people coming from various backgrounds. On the other hand, the opposition easily come down to the ground pointing fingers besides inculcating hatred and denying the successes achieved by the BN government all this while,”he said.
Meanwhile, he advised those who were not nominated as candidates for the 14th General Election to remain in the party and not do anything to obstruct the party’s struggles.
