KUALA TERENGGANU, April 17 — The state government will not issue the extension of time (EOT) to contractors more than once for each project and contract awarded, said Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.
He said that any project that failed to be completed after the first EOT would be terminated immediately and the contractor involved would likely be blacklisted for subsequent state projects.
“The move is to ensure that each project can be completed within a reasonable time frame, subsequently avoiding the proliferation of abandoned development projects in Terengganu, specifically in the vicinity of the state capital.
“This is also to ensure Malay contractors in Terengganu remain competitive and development in the state can run smoothly and systematically,” he told reporters after opening the 42nd Malaysian Malay Contractors Association of Terengganu annual general meeting here today .
He said the failure of contractors to complete projects within the stipulated time frame would also cause losses to the state government as a result of the cost increases on the projects.
However, he said contractors who were able to produce reasonable grounds for failing to complete their projects after the first EOT period would be given another extension to complete their projects. — Bernama
